Detail Samiilo Vasyliovych Velychko(1670—after 1728 )— Ukrainian Cossack-nobility chronicler, the author of the first systematic presentation of the history of the Ukrainian Cossack state. Samiil Velychko’s work is one of the three most famous and complete “Cossack chronicles” and is a unique monument of Cossack historical thought and baroque writing of the first half of the 18th century. Velychko was a clerk in the Zaporozhian Army under Hetman I. Mazepa and had great opportunities to collect and use the material. In contrast to the chronicles of Samovydets and Grabianka, Velychko's work is larger. It covers the events from 1620 to 1700 and contains hundreds of documents from the military chancellery (both unique copies and literally "sewn" into the text originals, quotes from the now lost diaries, chronicles. Despite its uniqueness and popularity, Velychko's work was never published in its entirety, with the necessary archeographic apparatus. Therefore, Velychko's "Chronicle", in fact, has not yet been properly studied. It was published in the middle of the XIX century. with a gross violation of the structure, significant omissions, without comment, textual and codicological analysis. In addition, before the publication of the XIX century. for censorship reasons, some documents and eulogies related to I. Mazepa were not included. The proposed edition, based on the original manuscript and its Kyiv copy of the end of the XVIII century, will allow to fully assess the events of the Cossack period in the history of Ukraine, rethink many historiographical myths and clarify specific events. The publication contains the full text of Velychko's work, reconstructed according to his plan, biography of the author of the monument, codicological analysis of the original manuscript and Kyiv list, history of manuscript creation, storage and publications, historiography, archeographic comments, table of Velychko's documents, literary and historical works, geographical and nominal indexes /// ///
