Detail Biography of the known Ukrainian historian, specialist on kozaks theme and socio-economic history of Ukraine Volodymyr Golobutsky is reproduced in the current work on the basis of the archived and verbal sources primarily and published documents. According to researcher’s periodization of Holobutskyi biography, two main chapters shed light on 10 periods of life and activity of the historian. Scientific and pedagogical activity of Volodymyr Golobutsky is reflected in detail for high school and academic establishments of the USSR; forming of his scientific school is traced; influence of social and cultural surrounding factors elucidated; influence extreme and regular everyday factors is found in intellectual biography. Based on the specific materials (from Holobutskyi life) the problem of forming the mechanism of Soviet identity has gotten its further development; it was discovered the range of biographical strategies, which were used by the person of "class hostile" background to survive under the condition of totalitarian reality and get the high social position.
